Become the Preferred supplier to your Customers!
You can submit all kinds of different information to The
Construction Directory. You can enter a short description of
your business or services in the front page and a more
detailed description in the main listing page along with a
various amount of other more specific information about your
business. Its not compulsory to fill in all the information,
but in my experience in the construction industry, it always
helps your potential customers to be well informed and it
all adds to your ultimate goal of making you their preferred supplier!
Contractors
If you are a main contractor and are looking for sub
contractors you can post any "pre-approval to work"
documents in your listing which will allow sub contractors
who want to work for you download them and fill them in and
then submit them to you in advance of any potential work
available.
Sub Contractors
You can post any supporting information about your
company in your listing such as any relevant insurances
held, health and safety policies, professional
qualifications and other company details which may attract
potential Clients to make contact with you for tender
invitations or offers of work. This could save you time in
the long run. You can also upload images and present case
studies using the image and documents facilities, the
options available are quite unique.
Listing Upgrade
As this directory grows and becomes more prominent in the
search engine results pages you may want to take advantage
of the available upgrades. You may very well start off
with a free listing and in time you may want to offer more
information or enhance your listings. You can simply do this from within your account
using the membership plans . This website is purposely
designed for you to make small incremental commitments from
your FREE account.
How the Directory works
Membership is totally free, you can create an account and
then add your free listings (up to five!), you will probably
want to start with the free listing membership plan. You use your account to manage your
listings, upgrades and other functions in the directory.
Directory functions in the membership plans
There are many questions asked in some of the more detailed
membership plans but very few in the free listing. If you
upgrade your plan you do not have to fill in all the information just
the info that you want to show to your readers.
Logo
Every membership plan has the option for a logo. This is
displayed with your listing on the front page and in the
detailed page. The image must be max 300 x 300 pixels in size
and no larger than 150kb. The system will make automatically
create a small
thumbnail to display in your category listing. Try and make your
image as close to 300x300 as you can because this directory
will resize your image to fit in the main listing detail
page, if its too
small it will not look very good because it may be expanded.
Side Banner
This is small image that is displayed on the front page
side bar and every other page of the website and is rotated with
other members side banners.
Top Banner
Shows under the keyword search box. This is the most prominent place on the home page of this or
any other
website. Having your Top Banner here will get your listing indexed first
by any search engine spider when it visits the
directory home page, it is also the first thing visitors may look at and
maybe click on when they arrive at the construction
directory home page. This is only available with the Premium
membership plan, your detailed listing is also clearly
marked as a Featured listing in the
side bar summary list which is also rotated with other
Featured listings.
Images There is a picture gallery available for
you to provide images for your visitors to view. You can
take full advantage of the description facility with the image to further
inform your potential customers of your products or services.
We all like looking at pictures and this is good way to make
your listing more interesting and attractive. We realize that some people may not
have a website so may need a facility to be able to display their
business products and services somehow, this construction directory make it possible. Documents
You can upload documents to your listing, you can use
PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel, simple Text files and scanned
image files as *.jpg(*.pdf *.doc *.xls *.txt, *.jpg). This will provide a facility to
present more information in the format and style you want.
You may want to show some professional documents that
support your business services or even certificates and
qualifications etc. You can scan them as PDF docs or an
image jpg doc then upload to your listing.
Health & Safety
This is big subject and is a dominating business
requirement these days for all of the construction industry.
Please make full use of the Documents facility to upload
your Health & Safety questionnaires so that potential
sub-contractors can download it and complete it to return to
you. This is most definitely a pro-active approach to
getting sub-contractors Health & Safety approved BEFORE they
start work with a Main Contractor.
Products
If you don't have a website of your own but are selling
products you can use the simple products facility. You can
upload an image of the product along
with a description, packaging and availability as well as a
link to the web page in your website where more information about
your product can be found. The image needs to
be 500x500 px and 150kb max, try and get your image to this
size as it is also shown in a popup box. Smaller images look
distorted because the directory will expand the image to fit
into the 500x500 popup box.
Account Listing Statistics
You can track some detailed statistics in your account
maintenance screen. You can monitor the performance of your
listing within the Construction Directory with such elements as:
- Banner Exposures: How many times your banner
has appeared on the directory web pages.
- Banner Hits: How many times visitors have
clicked on your banner to view your detailed content.
- Banner CTR% : This the Click Through
Ratio and determines the effectiveness of a
banner ad in terms of click-throughs. It is a ratio of
the number of times the banner was clicked on by the
visitor and the number of times the banner was
displayed. Thus, if a banner has been displayed 1000
times and has been clicked 50 times, its CTR is 50:1000
or 1:20. Changing this CTR into a percentage value
yields 5% (1/20 * 100); thus, 5% of the impressions have
lead to clicks on the banner.
- Hits: You can see how many hits have been
made on your detailed listing, (this is the count of how
many visitors have viewed your listing).
- Website: this is a count of how people have
clicked on the Visit Website link and gone to see
your website.
- Reviews: this tells you how many reviews you have for
your listing.
- Date Submitted: This is simply the date you
submitted your listing and the logged IP address.
- Updated: Simple date log of when the listing
was last updated.

Advertising Jobs
It would seem a shame to create a directory for the
construction industry and not have a facility for businesses
and companies
to advertise jobs. Sure, you can use the newspapers,
magazines or other media but have seen how much they charge lately!
As
this directory increases in popularity it will be a good
place to advertise your construction industry job vacancies at a competitive rate. I speak from
personal experience having done quite a few recruitment
drives in my time in the various job roles I have undertaken over
the last 30 years!
Guarantee
We can guarantee that this is probably the only directory that
is dedicated to the Construction Industry that offers this sort of style,
simplicity and detailed information about its content. It is
probably the only one of its kind on the Internet today as
of the 1st July 2008! and it is brought to you at very
competitive membership plan rates by The Construction Directory! If
Heineken did a Construction Directory it probably would not be better than this one! If you would like further information please do not
hesitate to
contact us. Best regards Peter Brooks of Birmingham
